Near as I can remember, I met Mrs. Birtel only once, in 1967, when her daughter Marti lived at Canal Zone College with my sister, Mary. The wonderful woman she was shines through in the beauty, (inside and out), of her daughter Marti. Marti's generosity of spirit, intelligence, education and common sense must be gifts from both of her parents, but her fierce and tender love for her own children is surely a testament to one of the many things she learned at her mother's knee. I am proud to be Marti's friend, and I wish I had known her mother better. love from Margaret

Evelyn was a dear friend mainly because we both were Army Retiree's wives. As members of the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary we participated in many programs.
I admired her kindness and her generosity to anyone who needed help.
Evelyn was special. She will be missed.

My name is Donna Caramia and I am proud to say that I am Evelyn's niece. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of our visits to Aunt Evie and Uncle Huck's house. We always looked forward to spending time there with our many cousins. I will miss Aunt Evie very much and she will always remain in my heart. I know she is with my Mom now - the two Hatley sisters are together once again. With love, Donna

My name is Laura Piccoli and my mom was Aunt Evie's sister Maryanne. I always remember going to "Aunt Evie's and Uncle Huck's" house. It was an adventure to us "city folks". An actual farm where we could feed the animals and chickens. It was so exciting to us. And the stories that we got to hear! To this day we speak of both Aunt Evie and Uncle Huck and we will always remember how lucky we were to have them in our lives. I know my mom is waiting there for Aunt Evie with open arms saying "sister dear, I have missed you!" Love, Laura and family

Evelyn was my beloved Sister In Law. She was married to my brother Carl Birtel. They raised me when I was a young boy of 12 when I was too young to care for myself. She gave me values which guided me through a life in the Military and then on to a career in Law Enforcement. She was wise beyond her years. May God take her into his care.

I have the very fondest memories of my Aunt Evie. She was my mother's sister (Maryanne). Throughout my childhood, it was always something special to look forward to Aunt Evie and Uncle Huck to come home from being stationed out of the NJ/PA area. When I was about 7 or 8 years old they brought me back an outfit from Okinawa. I have often thought of the great picknicks we had at their log cabin home. I know you are in a better place smiling down at us. God Bless your family.

Mom you were always there for us and showed us many things in life. No matter how great or small the problem, you were there. No matter what the outcome, you were there. You and Dad have seven children all different in some way, yet the same in others. And yet those differences are what bring us all together and make us a family. Well done Mom! Miss you and love you.
