Obituary of Marcella Compton Haslam

Marcella Compton Haslam, age 95, of Lakeville, Pa. died peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Bethany Village, Bethany, Pa. Marcella was born in Pomeroy, Ohio on July 3, 1915. Formerly she was a resident of Short Hills, NJ for 47 years where she was active in many civic and professional organizations often in leadership roles. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Short Hills, NJ. Marcella retired from Kean University of NJ as Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and she continued in her private counseling practice until her move to Lakeville. She graduated with honors from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA, held a Masters degree from Simmons College in Boston, MA and a Masters degree from Rutgers University of NJ where she also received a Doctorate in Psychology. Marcella opened her home to many international and domestic visitors throughout the years. She mentored students and was instrumental in shaping the lives of not only her own family but countless others as well. Marcella is survived by her four children: daughter, Judith and Peter Butcher of Taos, NM; son,Robert and Molly Haslam of San Mateo, CA; daughter, Sheila and Edwin Williams of Lakeville, PA and son, Douglas and Julie Haslam of San Carlos, Ca. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren ( Chante, Keith, Kathe, Spencer, Laurel, Julia, Jade, Austin, Jeffery and Annie) and 4 great-grandchildren (Christina, Amanda, Brianna and Sonya). She is also survived by two sisters: Virginia Cope of Marshall, TX and Carlotta Ramona (Billie) Ward of Corona del Mar, CA. A private memorial service and interment will be held at the family's convenience at the Compton Family Plot in Pomeroy, Ohio.
