Obituary of Helen E. Gibbons

Helen E. Gibbons, 88, of Hawley, died Thursday at home after an illness. Her husband was the late John A. Gibbons who passed away in 1993. Born in Olyphant, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stephanie Owczarski Mazur. She was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of Saint Joseph's Church, White Mills for over sixty years. She was also employed in the local garment industry until retirement. An avid homemaker, family always came first and foremost in Helen's life. Whether it was on a special holiday or just any ordinary day, she took much pleasure in being surrounded by her family. Helen will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She lived a full and rich life, and her kind and generous spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her beloved family and friends. Surviving are four children James Gibbons and wife Kathleen of Hawley, Donnamarie Finney and husband Roy of Tafton, Jan Gibbons and wife Diane of Hawley, and Mary Ellen Kingston and husband Martin of Honesdale; grandchildren: Jared, Jessica, Meghan, Jimmy, Chelsea, and Kiley Gibbons, Miles and Jack Kingston, Roy, Jr. and Christopher Finney, Tracy Hintermister, Lori Dye, and Addie Brennan; great grandchildren: Otto and Finn Hintermister, Lane and Carter Dye, Darby and Libby Brennan; a brother Anthony Mazur; three sisters: Agnes Galas, Elizabeth Tabor, and Pearl Mazur, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Anna Mazur, and three brothers: Joseph, Stanley, and John Mazur. Calling hours will be Tuesday, August 21, 2010, from 5 to 8 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 22, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Rev. James Barrett officiating. Anyone planning to attend the funeral is asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart 600 Baltimore Drive Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
