Obituary of Rudolph Wassmer

Rudolph O. "Rudy" Wassmer, age 83, Bohemia, Hawley, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Ascera Care Hospice in Mid-Valley Hospital, Peckville. Mr. Wassmer was born in Bellerose, LI, NY, on February 2, 1927, and was the son of the late Rudolph Wassmer and Viola Neill Wassmer Balken. He was married to the former Marjorie A. Holmes for 56 years.
A World War II Army Veteran, he lived much of his life in New Hyde Park, NY, and worked as a self-employed plumber.
He was a former elected trustee in New Hyde Park, past Lion's Club President in New Hyde Park, NY, and was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He was a former President of Nassau Co. Joint Board of Plumbing Examiners and a Plumbing Inspector for the village of New Hyde Park. While living in New Hyde Park, he was also Treasurer of Boy Scout Troop #298, Little League Manager and member of American Legion Post 1089 in New Hyde Park, NY.
A Bohemia resident since 1983, Mr. Wassmer was a Life Member of Central Vol. Fire Dept and served as Fire Police. He was Auditor for Lackawaxen Twp., current Chair of Pike Co. Board of Assesment Appeals Board and a long time member of Pike Co. Republican Committee. He was also a member of Cricket Hill Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Miriam Wassmer of Doylestown, PA; two grandsons, Christopher and Michael Wassmer; and a brother, Lester Wassmer of Binghamton, NY.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Viola Engvaldsen and Mildred Boyle, and two brothers, Harold and Warren.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 2, from 2 to 6 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Monday, January 3, at 11:00 AM at Teeters' East Chapel with Rev. Norman R. Beighley, Pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley following the service.
