Obituary of Teresa Fran Lynn

Teresa F. "Fran" Lynn, age 92, of N. Kingstown, RI, died Friday, December 31, 2010, at Scalabrini Villa, N. Kingtown, RI. Born November 9, 1918, in Tafton, PA, she was the daughter of the late James Oscar and Margaret (Mayers) Lynn. She was a 1936 graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital in Scranton from 1936 to 1939. From 1939 to 1944, she worked as a nurse in Grasslands Hospital in New York. From January 1944 to February 1946, she served a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps working as a General Duty Nurse in World War II. She worked in a hospital in Rheims, France, while awaiting transport back to the United States. She then attended Catholic University and earned a BS in Nursing in 1949. During her career, she worked as a nurse in the VA Hospital in New York, a hospital in Palmer, Alaska, in the early 1950's, and then returned to Washington, DC, where she worked in the VA Hospital. She had also worked in a nursing home in Maryland, beginning as Afternoon Supervisor and eventually became Director of Nursing. She retired in 1984. Fran also volunteered for the Red Cross in Washington, DC, training other volunteers to do home nursing and she taught Catholic religious education classes for children. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews: Gregory Sieffert and his wife Felice of Bulverde, TX; Paul Sieffert and his wife Sarah of Lanham, MD; Ann Garrison of N. Kingstown, RI; Michael Lynn and his wife Kelly of Port Matilda, PA; Mary Moore and her husband Richard of Silver Spring, MD; Pamela Lynn of Everett, WA; and Kevin Lynn of Ashton, VA; and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Sieffert, and a brother, Martin Joseph Lynn. Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 5, from 9 to 10:30 AM at TEETERS' Funeral Chapel, Inc., 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 5, at 11:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
