Obituary of Darlene Moran

Darlene Joiner Moran, 70, of Tanglwood Lakes, Greentown, died January 22, at Mercy Hospice, Scranton. Born April 20, 1940, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Al and Edith Joiner. She and her husband Ray celebrated 47 years of marriage on July 20, 2010. Darlene attended Jersey City public schools, graduating from Lincoln High School. She then attended and graduated Jersey City State College and began teaching art in the Fort Lee public schools. She then devoted most of her time to the excellent raising of her family in North Plainfield, NJ, where the family attended Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Darlene still found time to be President of North Plainfield League of Women Voters and then Chair of the North Plainfield Zoning Board. She became an antiques dealer and evolved into becoming a certified appraiser. Moving to Pennsylvania, Darlene became a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hamlin. She was a member of the Wayne, Pike, Sullivan Antique Dealers Assn. and the Pennsylvania Antique Dealers Assn. She then rediscovered her love of painting. She and her husband became accomplished boaters, living aboard and traveling extensively up and down the rivers and East Coast of the US. Darlene is also survived by two daughters, Tara Slater and her husband Chad and Heather Moran; a son, Sean; a granddaughter, Kelly Slater; a sister, Eydie Fonti and her husband Frank; a nephew, Alex Fonti and his wife Liza; and a niece Francesca Fonti. There will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Route 191, Hamlin, on January 29, 2011, at 11:00 AM.
