Obituary of Stephen P. Malamud

Stephen P. (Pops) Malamud, age 69,of The Hideout, Lake Ariel, passed away Friday, February 11, at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo, Lake Ariel. With family by his side and after a long , four-year battle with pancreatic cancer, he closed his eyes in peace. He defied the odds every step of his journey. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Marie Graefing.
Born March 6, 1941, in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Abraham and Lillian (Pincus) Malamud. He was a graduate of Teaneck High School, Class of 1959, and attended Fairleigh Dickinson and Rutgers Universities.
Formerly of Marshalls Creek and Clarks Summit, he had been a Hideout resident for 6 years. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he had been an automobile salesman and Chief Financial Officer of a large auto mart in New Jersey. Through the years, he was a member of the Corvette Club and the Sports Car Club of America. In his youth Stephen was an accomplished Martial Artist achieving a 3rd Degree Black belt in Goshen Do karate and the title of Sensei.
Stephen's passion for his family is what defined him. Over the years, he was seldom seen without his video camera at his children's sporting events, encouraging and supporting them every step of their lives. Stephen and Marie celebrated 43 wonderful years together on December 17th, 2010. They were devoted through thick and thin. He loved landscaping and gardening. After his retirement, he set out on a quest to heal himself through carving a serine landscape of ponds and streams into the rocky earth of their Hideout address. He and Marie would often be seen working side by side.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Geron and her husband Michael of Lenox Twp., PA; a son, Brian Malamud and his wife Shannon of Dalton, PA; two granddaughters, Hannah Geron and Shelby Malamud; a brother, George Malamud of Rivervale, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Malamud.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 15, from 10 am to 12 noon at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Rabbi Mark Rotenberg officiating. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
The family wishes to thank all of the healthcare professionals who touched Stephen's life and worked tirelessly to help him.
