Mary J. Giani, age 95, of Huggy Bear Lake, Hawley, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at home following an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Louis A. Giani, in 1994. Born June 18, 1918, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Morrissey) Frank. Formerly of Brooklyn, NY, and Mt. Pocono,PA, she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Hawley for the past 20 years. Mrs. Giani was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. She was a long-time supporter of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She made over 5000 rosaries for priests in India. In addition, via Christian Foundation for Children and the Aged she adopted a son in India who is now in seminary studying to be a priest. She is survived by three daughters: Lois Galizia and her husband John with whom she resided, Mary Lou Donnelly of Mt. Airy, NC, and Roberta J. Giani of Staten Island, NY; six grandchildren: Lois Marie Peterson, Lou Ann Hicks, Thomas Galizia, Judi-Lynn Albright, Mary Jo Freeman and Gil Edward Donnelly; and 12 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday, December 27, from 3 to 6 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Saturday, December 28, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 DannyThomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 North Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33309-2130.
