Josephine E. Mc Gall, better known as "Phene," passed away at Longwood Manor Personal Care Home on May 13, 2011. She was born in Paupack, PA, on July 29, 1912, to the late James and Clarabelle (Kimble) Killam. She was the loving wife of Edmund L. Mc Gall who passed away on April 12, 1988. They were married for 53 years.
She is survived by a daughter, MaryAnn Walrath of Lorton, VA, and a son, James M. Mc Gall, spouse of Mary E. Mc Gall of Mount Joy, PA, five grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three sisters, Florence Killam of Paupack, PA, Eunice Elliott of San Antonio, TX, and Helen Teeter of Hawley, PA, preceded her in death.
Phene graduated form Honesdale High School and Lackawanna Business College as well as the Lackawanna School of Cosmetology. She worked as a hairdresser for many years. She was also employed for several years as Assistant to Pennsylvania State Representative, William Foster, in his local Honesdale office.
During World War II she served as a volunteer plane spotter for the United States Army Air Force. She was an active member of the Wayne County Republican Party as well as other community activities in Honesdale for many years. She served as a Gray Lady volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She served on the school board in Wayne County having worked on the establishment of the new Honesdale High School. She was also a member of Prompton Community United Methodist Church.
Phene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and homemaker. She loved to cook for her family and friends and was an avid card player. In her later years she loved to read and still loved to play cards. As a younger person she loved horseback riding.
She was always helping her friends and neighbors in the local community for whatever their needs may have been. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, at 12 noon at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA, with Pastor Ed Giles of Prompton Community United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday, May 21, from 10 to noon. Cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory.
