Mary J. Ferraro, age 82, a resident of the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, John E. Ferraro, in 1977. Born January 12, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Brown) Abbamonte. She was a graduate of the Pratt Institute and Hofstra University. Formerly of Brooklyn, NY, and Lakeville, PA, she was employed as a paralegal by Manufacturers Hanover Trust in NY for many years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Ferraro was a member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church where she had been a former Altar and Rosary Society member and former CCD teacher. She had also been a Girl Scout leader for many years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Judy and John Witte of Lakeville; three sons and daughters-in-law: John and Ruthann of Avondale, PA, William and Jean Ann of Lakeville and Rick and Marilyn of Waymart; a sister: Patricia Firestone of Florida; a brother: Joseph Abbamonte of New York; ten grandchildren; three great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 31, from 5 to 8 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 1, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association NEPA Regional, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701
