Otto was a very nice man and I knew him for a long time. My father-in-law used to give him vegetables from his garden many years ago.
Otto always made it a point to
say hello, how are you doing? He even plowed our front patio in the winter so we could park when we came up in the winter, which we really appreciated. We will surely miss him! May God bring him into the light of His presence!!

I remember staying overnight at the Winkler hotel in Greeley that your Dad's parents owned. I think I learned then that your Dad's first name was Otto (middle name Ray). I bet I was six or seven years; the hotel was an amazing place to visit. I remember many years of games and girl talk at the Winkler house. I can still see us playing Monopoly in Laurie and Gina's bedroom with Melinda. And I can smell your Mom's freshly baked coffee cake. I feel lucky for those memories of your great family. Love, Rosalie

I want to thank the Winkler family for sharing their husband, father and grandfather with me. He did much more for me than I ever did for him. Next to my own family he truly was my greatest fan and supporter. He ALWAYS went out of his way to not only see me play but also videotape my games and support me no matter what the challenge. I think he knew my stats better than I did! He was always so gracious and thanking me, but in reality I should be thanking him. He gave me a gift that I could never repay him for and that was "being there". A number of my best basketball memories include your husband, dad and grandfather and I thank all of you, especially you Otto, from the bottom of my heart!

Some of my fondest holiday memories growing up were listening to Uncle Ray and Uncle Billy trade stories at the dinner table. I can also remember when the families got together to put an addition on Nana and Poppop's house. Every time Uncle Ray turned his head, I would snap his newly lit cigarette. Boy, was he ticked. A lot of wonderful memories. Will definitely miss him.

So many words may be used to describe Otto, but number one would have to be "decent". Otto was simply a decent man. A man who cherished his family, worked hard and enjoyed the simple things in life; the crack of a bat, the swoosh of a ball through the net and the laughter of friends and family.
Those who were privileged to know and love Otto will miss him, but please know that he will never be far away as long as his memory lives in our hearts.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Winkler once and he left quite an impression. He was a big bear of a man, a bit imtimidating at first, but we started speaking and he just had me laughing and I felt right at home.
Before reading this I never knew all his extraordinary accomplishiments throughout his liftime, what an amazing life he led. He has left behind a great legacy in his six wonderful children and beautiful grandchildren.

Dear Grandpa,
I have had so many great memories with you! Like during my basketball games when u would cheer me on in the stands, spending the fourth of july with you last year at the school, and when I saved your life in my pool when u tried showing off your dives and sunk to the bottom. At that time I was offically known as your savior.I couldn't ask for a better grandpa than you! You always had a smile on your face when we were together. I always enjoyed hearing your unbelievable stories of your childhood. Wherever we were you made the best of it.
Life is really diffrent without you. And it's heartbreaking not having you around. You were such a great father, grandpa, brother, and friend to everyone. You will be missed greatly by lots of people. But i want you to know that me and rocco will take care of grandma and make sure she is always happy.
Looking at pictures of you makes my heart ache beacuse I realize that I won't see you for a long time. But i have to remind myself that you are in a better place , with your parents and friends. But don't forget about the other family that is down here that still really loves you. I guess it is time to say goodbye for now. I love you so much and you will always in my thoughts and prayers.
With all my love,
Livi/Your savior

To the entire Winkler family,
I was saddened to hear of Mr. Winkler's passing. I will always remember his 4-note whistle while he tiled my parents floor when I was a little girl -- I can still whistle that tune today. I also will always remember him at our basketball games as a fan -- he came to a lot of them. Keep all of your memories alive, and know you are all in my thoughts today.
