Obituary of Kathryn Voigt

Please share a memory of Kathryn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathryn Chapman Voigt of Hawley died Sunday at the Fauquier Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warrenton, Va. She celebrated her 90th birthday this year on March 28th with her dear friends Peter and Margot Clauss and their children of Tafton, Pa. Kathryn was born in Honesdale, Pa., to the late Clayton R. and Agnes H. Chapman. Kathryn had lived for many years in Vestal, N.Y. with her former husband and the late George Voigt, whose family also had resided in Hawley. She later resided in Hawley. Kathryn played four years of varsity basketball for Hawley High School. She also won many awards for her singing during those years, her mother Agnes driving her to various state destinations for competitions. Kathryn loved to be with her family, especially her cousin Evelyn Catlin and her husband Robert Catlin of Newburgh, N.Y., plus her nieces and nephews, and families: Beth Nikles of Twin Lakes, Pa., Dan Costello of Mountain Top. Pa., and Jim Costello of Brooklyn, N.Y. They all survive her. Kathryn frequently traveled to Virginia to celebrate birthdays and holidays with her southern family members: daughter Jane Voigt of Alexandria and son Clayton Voigt of Warrenton, plus her beautiful and vibrant granddaughters Lisa Voigt Burch and her husband Jeremiah Burch of Centreville, Va., plus Danielle Voigt, who recently relocated to Greer, S.C. Danielle, and her fiancé Andrew Padula, gave birth to Isabella Renata Padula, on the same day Kathryn died. This would have brought a smile to her face knowing that the circle of life had continued. Isabella would have been Kathryn's first great grandchild. Gardening took much of Kathryn's time in Hawley's warmer months. Her backyard was abloom with lilies, clematis, and coral-colored geraniums. However, Kathryn's heart belonged on the ballroom dance floor. She joined dance groups in Pompano Beach, Fla., when she wintered there. She also danced with groups in Scranton. Kathryn wore special shoes for her evenings of dance, ones soled with suede. She said they let her glide. When she told people about her suede-soled shoes, her beautiful smile lit up the room. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20, from 5-8 PM at Teeters' Funeral Chapel on Church Street in Hawley. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, at 2 PM at The Hawley Methodist Church. Kathryn will be buried at the Hopedale Moravian Cemetery in Newfoundland, Pa., alongside her parents. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the COPD Foundation or The American Parkinson Disease Association. Cards and donations can be mailed to Jane Voigt, 6552 Cypress Point Road, Alexandria, VA, 22312. Please write checks to the giver's preferred charity.
