Adelaide Edith Holbert, age 87, of Lackawaxen died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at VNA Hospice at Geisinger CMC, Scranton. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald R. Holbert. Mrs. Holbert was born April 23, 1926, in Hawley, PA, and was the daughter of the late Richard and Adelaide (Tether) Sennett. Formerly of Oceanside, NY, she was a graduate of Oceanside High School. She was married to Donald Holbert at Oceanside Lutheran Church on Dec. 10, 1949, by Rev. Todd Abram. She had been a resident of Lackawaxen since that day. Mrs. Holbert was a longtime member of Lackawaxen Fire Department. She also volunteered with Girl Scouts, 4-H and fundraising for the American Cancer Society. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters: Gail Dunn of St. Petersburg, FL, and Sue Ellen Saad of Highland Park, NJ; two sons: Wayne and David Holbert, both of Lackawaxen; four grandchildren: Chris Howe of Lackawaxen, Chelsea Holbert of Indianapolis, IN, and Serena and Olivia Saad of Highland Park, NJ; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, January 18, from 1:30 to 4 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Sunday, January 19, at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Mary Owens of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Lackawaxen officiating. Private cremation will be held at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford. Burial will be held at a later date in Holbert Cemetery, Lackawaxen.
