Obituary of Robert J. Davis

Robert J. Davis, Jr., age 79, of Honesdale died following an illness Sunday, October 23, 2011, at home. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Leah M. Heffelfinger.
Born July 5, 1932, in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Elizabeth (Griffith) Davis Sr. Bob was a sergeant in the Marine Corps, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Tank Batallion from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of lifetime member of VFW Post 5635, Lackawaxen; lifetime member of American Legion Post 0371, Hawley.
A graduate of Stevens School of Technology in Lancaster, he had worked at Lancaster Newspaper and Lititz Record Express. In addition, he had worked for Lancaster Press as a linotype operator from 1958 to 1979. Formerly of Greeley and Lititz, PA, he owned and operated RJ's Tavern in Greeley with his wife from 1979 to 1998.
An avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club. He hunted locally and in the West with his son, Bruce. He was also a dedicated NY Yankee and Penn State fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Gwen Story and her husband Don of Lititz and Carol Kuhn of Honesdale; a son: Bruce and his wife Ivy of Columbia, PA; and six grandchildren: Elizabeth Rotundo, Jessica Melton, Paul Kuhn, Braden Story, Brooke Davis and Berk Gerdes.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. There will be additional visitation at 10:00 on Friday, Oct. 28, prior to the funeral. The funeral will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Theodore Muller, Former Pastor of Visitation of Hawley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Towamensing Cemetery, Palmerton.
