Obituary of Paul Peter Kowalczyk
Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul Peter Kowalczyk, age 92, of Hawley died Friday, February 7, 2014 at home.
Mr. Kowalczyk was born May 26, 1921 in Elizabeth, NJ and was the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Pollock) Kowalczyk. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Babish, Nellie Fetkin, Olga Grozuczak and four brothers, John, Anthony, Edward and Michael Kowalczyk.
Being a talented machinist, he worked at a defense plant during WW II and for Merck in New Jersey. Moving full time to PA in 1952 he worked at PennDOT, Woodloch Pines and did general carpentry work.
Paul love to work. For him work was another word for fun. Helping his sons and grandchildren with their projects gave him great joy. When he was not helping a neighbor with a building project he was working in his "Work Shop". If you broke it, he could fix it. He enjoyed maintaining his home, manicuring his lawn and working in his garden well into retirement. In his sixties through eighties, he transported senior citizens to town to shop and make their appointments.
For decades he played the PA lottery daily. He had a "system" that he would explain to any newcomer to the game. He was a life-long Democrat, voting through his eighties and was also a founding member of the Lackawaxen Township Civic Association. Always helping the underdog, he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Anna (Kocur) Kowalczyk and two sons: Paul N. & his wife, Kathy Kowalczyk of Hawley, PA; Allan H. Kowalczyk of Hawley, PA; granddaughter, Kara Kowalczyk; Grandson, Daniel Kowalczyk; one sister: Katherine Stec of Clark , NJ and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass and interment service will be held at the convenience of the family.
