Marian C. Verikas, age 76, of Hawley died Monday, January 23, 2012, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Verikas, in 1996. Born May 19, 1935, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine (Martin) Wasco. Formerly of Illinois, she worked as a medical coder until her retirement. She had been a Hawley area resident for 20 years. Mrs. Verikas was a dedicated member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends and traveling to Illinois to visit her family there. An avid football fan, she also loved sports. She enjoyed her word finds and reading her Sunday newspaper. She is survived by two daughters: Catherine Schneider of Hawley and Christine Pahlke of Plainfield , IL; one son: John J. Verikas Jr. of Plainfield, IL; one sister: Nancy A. Wasco of Hawley; one brother: Joseph A. Wasco of Saylorsburg, PA; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Gerard Verikas; a sister, Grace Ciszak; and two brothers, Paul and Andrew Wasco. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 26, from 4 to 8 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday, January 27, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery. Memorials may be made to BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, PA 18428
