Priscilla Hayes, age 89, of Tafton and formerly of Jersey City, NJ died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale.
Mrs. Hayes was born January 14, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ and was the daughter of the late John and Julianna (Szalwinski) Falkowski. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth R. Hayes in 2005, a brother, Leonard Falkowski, and sisters, Florence Chipp, Doris McBride, Gertrude Peterson, Ruth Kahle, Eleanor Scott.
She was a homemaker whose family was paramount in her life and she had a great sense of humor... quick to laugh and smile and was a gourmet cook. Priscilla was a community activist, founder of the Three Keys Club in Jersey City, which served disadvantaged teens and helped so many turn their lives around. She was a dedicated environmentalist especially to wildlife preservation. Committed to education for her family and herself,she earned an associate's degree from St. Peter's College at the age of 52.
She is survived by two daughters: Dawn O'Leary of Portland, OR, Dr. Colette Hayes of Spring Lake Heights, NJ; son & daughter-in-law, Dr. Wayne Hayes &his wife, Kathleen Grant of Cranford, NJ; grandchilren, Thomas O'Leary, Jason O'Leary, Erin Mahoney, Aileen Hayes, Maura Hayes, Nicole Labruto, Julianna Labruto, Leslie Labruto and several nieces and nephews and dear friend Linda Barbito.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 6th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, on Friday, March 7th at 10 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley.
Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
