Obituary of Elizabeth D. Jackson

Elizabeth D. "Bette" Jackson, age 88, of Hawley died on Monday, March 12, 2012, at home. Her husband of 32 years, William J. Jackson, died in July 1981. Born December 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Lester M. and Edna K. (Singer) Carlton of Lakeville, PA. After graduating from Hawley High School, she accepted a Civil Service position with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Philadelphia. She and her husband later returned to Lakeville, and she was appointed Board Secretary to the Wallenpaupack Area School District. She retired in 1988 as Secretary to the Superintendent. Bette was a member of the Lakeville United Methodist Church, where she was organist and choir director for 30 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She belonged to the PA Association of School Retirees, the Lakeville Cemetery Association and the Wallenpaupack Historical Society. She is survived by a brother, Lester M. (Eleanor) Carlton Jr. of Audobon, PA; a daughter, Doris E. Singer and her husband Ethan with whom she resided; a grandson, Dieter Winterle Jr.; a granddaughter, Erika B. Winterle; a great granddaughter, Savannah; nieces; nephews; cousins; 3 step-children, Carol Boychuck and her husband Paul of Virginia, Ronald Jackson and his wife Elaine of Falls, PA, and William J. Jackson and his wife Joan of Virginia; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lakeville United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeville United Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
