John J. Brooks, 72, of Hawley died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 4, at home. He is survived by his wife of four years, Angela (Pesola) Brigandi-Brooks. Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen F. Coyne Brooks. A Marine veteran, he was a retired chief mechanic for ConEdison in New York. Formerly of Staten Island, NY, he had been a Hawley resident for 22 years. A member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley, he was an active Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister and a generous contributor to the church. In addition, he was a member of the church choir and the Knights of Columbus. When he lived in Staten Island, he had been a member of Our Lady of Pity Roman Catholic Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Douglas Brigandi Jr.; two daughters: Nicole Brigandi and Bianca Brigandi; five sisters: Catherine Boyd of Barnegat, NJ, Anne Watkins of Brooklyn, NY, Nora Gray of Middletown, NY, Helen Slezak of Highland Mills, NY and Monica Brooks of Monroe, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tues., April 10, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley. Friends and neighbors planning to attend the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Visitation will be held at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, on Mon., April 9, from 2 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM. Burial, at the convenience of John's family, will take place at BVM Queen of Peace Cemetery following cremation at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
