Obituary of Frances L. Almquist

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frances L. Almquist, age 73, of Lakeville died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She is survived by her husband, Gordon N. Almquist, whom she married in 1977. Born September 20, 1940, in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rogelio and Maria E. (Estremera) Leguillow. Prior to her retirement, she had been an airline stewardess for Pan Am and flew out of bases in New York, Miami and San Francisco. She was fluent in English and Spanish and could converse about shopping items in Portugese, French, German, Italian and sign language. Shopkeepers all over the world loved to see her arrive - she was not a shopper - she was a buyer. After her retirement, she settled into the family home to take care of family, friends and any creatures that crossed her path. As a guardian of the animal kingdom, she ambushed any unsuspecting hunter who was foolish enough to trespass. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Leguillow, and her sister, Linidia Bettuci. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 15, at 2:00 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, with Rev. William Samford, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Hawley, officiating. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association NEPA Regional, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701; Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg,MD 20871; or any other organization dedicated to Alzheimer's Disease.
