My heart is sad at the loss your family is feeling.. My life long (since age 5) friendship with Kate, gave me early memories of Johnny, as I visited/hung out at the E.N Luncheonette, for my "formative" years. Mrs. Diehl in the back making Rice Pudding, (God I loved that pudding), Mr. Diehl at the register (I bought gum a lot) and Johnny at the grill.. Later, when Kate started working there, it was just another excuse to visit/hang out.. at the counter, of course.. I also used the Pay Phones to make calls I didn't want my parents to know about.. (Yes Pay Phones). Johnny was always nice to me and never minded that i'd sit for hours, just sipping one coke after another... Spending my childhood/teens at the Diehl home and Luncheonette are memories of "belonging" that I treasure to this day. Although I have not seen Johnny, or his children, in years, Kate has always kept me "up to date" . My prayers for Johnny continue, as they do for all who loved him.

We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your father, John. John attended our Lakeville United Methodist Church and would bring his son Daniel when he could.
John was a very quite man but truly devoted to his son. He is no longer in pain and although he leaves a big hole in the heart of the family he is now at peace.
May you all find the comfort and strength that you will need in the days and weeks ahead and may the memories of all your father did for you give you some comfort.
God bless you all,
Jean Corey of the Lakeville United Methodist Church

I have had the great pleasure and privilege of working for two years with John at Home Depot. We two "young at heart" guys bonded so quickly as we worked together on the MET team.
John D is one of those very few awesome people you always enjoy being with.
Gracious, Strong, Funny, Caring, Ingenious, Selfless.
John, you're easily in the "Top Ten" of the Most Loved and Unforgettable Characters of all time.
Love,
George and Marilyn Zorgo

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a great man that always talked highly of his family. He was courteous, devoted, and helpful. John always had a smile when doing airport runs to and from Newark in odd hours of the day and early morning. He had a positive impact on my life. Many people, and me, will miss him.
