Louis Carson "Lou" Beck, age 75, of Hawley died Friday, March 6, 2015, at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Beverly Ann Cushman. Born May 1, 1939, in Plainfield, NJ, he was the son of the late Louis Fred and Jane Charlotte (Carson) Beck. An Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in agronomy from Delaware College of Science and Agriculture. Formerly of Bedford, PA, he had been a Honesdale and Hawley area resident for 40 years. He was an agronomist who worked as District Manager of the Pike/Wayne Soil Conservation District under the USDA until his retirement in 1994. However, he best loved to work at the Trading Post/Whatknots, the business he owned with his wife Bev. Lou was a member of Hawley Planning Commission and worked on the committee for the Hawley Streetscape Project. He was one of the founders of Hawley Winterfest. He was also a licensed sewage enforcement officer and realtor. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Beverley Anne Kreiter and her husband Kip and Lurleen Carney and her husband Matthew, all of Hawley; one son: Louis Brant Beck of Lakeville; four grandchildren: LeeAnn, Logan, Calvin and Kirsten; and his cats who were his babies and dear friends: Sophie, CB and Jack. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 5 to 7 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
