He graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School in North Tarrytown, NY (1961) and earned a bachelor's degree at Franklin and Marshall College (1965). He went on to graduate from Villanova University School of Law (1968) with a Juris Doctor degree as a member of the Order of the Coif honor society. He was also an editor of the Villanova Law Review.
