Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Cartwright

Mary Elizabeth Cartwright, age 77, of Roanoke, VA, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James R. Cartwright Sr., in 2002. Born October 26, 1938, in Hawley, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gerard and Mabel (Hatton) Adams. She worked as a CNA for Wayne Memorial Hospital and as a private duty nursing assistant for many years. A Hawley resident for most of her life, she volunteered for many years with the Hawley Ambulance and was chief for many of those years. She also taught CPR and advanced life support and was an EMT instructor. She is survived by six children: Donna and her husband Bob Garrett, J. Robert Jr., Jerome, Mark W. and his wife Maria, Peter D., and Cheri B.; her brother: Gerard "Rod" Adams; twelve grandchildren: Derek, Mariah, Sarah, Rose, J.C., Laura, Kevin, Erin, Sean, Danielle, Caitlin and Mischa; one great grandson, Brayden; and two brothers-in-law: George W. "Pete" Murphy and Jerome Cartwright. She was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Murphy, and two sisters-in-law, Donna Cartwright and Margaret Adams. Calling hours will be Sunday, July 17, from 2 to 6 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, July 18, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. William Blake. Inurnment will follow at B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
