Obituary of Sophie G. Pulici

Sophie G. Pulici, age 82, a longtime Hawley resident, died Wednesday, September 26, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent J. Pulici, in 2005. Born in Ledgedale, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Martina (Yarsavage) Balanovich. She was a graduate of Hawley High School. She worked alongside her husband Vincent in the family business, Pulici Gas and Oil. In her younger days, she raced at the Beach Lake Dirt Track with the Powder Puff Derby. She loved to hunt any and all game and had been a Girl Scout leader. In addition, she was the former Democratic Committeewoman for Palmyra Township and Wayne County. She was a member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church and had been a resident of Julia Ribaudo Health Care Center for the past two years. She is survived by a daughter: Carol Ann von Hake of Hawaii; two sons: Arno of Montana and Joseph M. of Hawley; a sister: Marie Johnson of Scranton; five grandchildren: Andrew McPherson, Vince and Chris Pulici, Samantha Pulici and Holly Sullivan; and a sister-in-law: Peggy Pulici of Hawley. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 29, from 9 to 9:45 AM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, 314 Chestnut Ave., Hawley. Burial will take place at BVM Queen of Peace Cemetery following the Mass.
