Obituary of Alfred E. Secino

Alfred E. Secino, age 104, of Lakeville, PA died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Legrina "Betty" (Cornacchini) Secino. Born August 2, 1912, in Fitchburg, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Guerra) Secino. A Fitchburg resident for most of his life, he was a graduate of Fitchburg High School. After graduating, he attended Hebron Academy in Maine to hone his football skills. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Catholic University in Washington, DC, which he was able to attend on a football scholarship. He then returned to Fitchburg where he became an elementary physical education teacher and football coach until his retirement in 1977. Alfred's 35 years as an elementary school phys ed teacher caused him to touch many lives. To this day, he is remembered and praised by many of his former students. In 2007, he was honored with induction into the Fitchburg High School Hall of Fame. He had remained a college football enthusiast, coming to life as the fall season started up to follow teams all through the season and always cheering for the underdog. His Saturdays always revolved around the college football games being played. He also developed a love of computer Free Cell games in his 90's and was always ready to teach anyone the game, along with Sudoku. He was a wonderful, gentle, loving man who touched every person he came in contact with. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter: Keta Kaminsky and her husband Steve, with whom Alfred lived in his last years; two grandchildren: Joshua Miracle and Angela Crackel and her husband James; six great grandchildren: Lance and Jordan Miracle, and Cory, Brandon, Bailey and Abigail Crackel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as well. The last surviving sibling of twelve, Alfred was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bonita Miracle. Calling hours will be Monday, December 19, from 9 to 11 AM at Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St, Fitchburg, MA. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg.
