Obituary of Virginia J. Austin

Virginia J. Austin, age 75, of Hawley died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, February 3, 2017. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bruce D. Austin Sr. They were married on Sept. 9, 1962. Born January 31, 1942, in Callicoon, NY, she was the daughter of the late Marvin O. and Edna (Scherer) Conklin. She enjoyed working at Thomas Spinning Lures in Hawley, continuing her work there part-time even after she "retired." In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Tina Stoyer and her husband Dan of Hawley and Amy DeFazio and her husband Francis of Hawley; two sons: Bruce D. Austin Jr. and his wife Deborah of Paupack and Christopher Austin and his wife Lynette of Lakeville; one sister: Janet Sutliff; one brother: Francis Conklin; eight grandchildren: David and Ryan Austin, Ashley Pierano, Jesse James Jeremy Barrett, Devin, Jaden and Dylan DeFazio; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six siblings: Isabelle Conklin, James Conklin, Arlie Conklin, Leo Conklin, Marie Ficken and Betty Conklin. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. The Austin family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses from Wayne Memorial Hospice for the dedicated care they provided to Virginia as well as the rest of her family.
