Michael J. Magee, 86, of Hawley, passed away at home surrounded by family, on April 13, 2017. Mike was born in the Bronx, NY, and was the son of Peter and Mary (Gilsonsen) Magee. A graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He lived in New City, NY, from 1960 to 1996, where he was active at St. Augustine R.C. Church, coaching CYO basketball and teaching CCD, among other things. After moving to Hawley, he became well known in the community, working the front gate at Woodloch Springs and regularly attending BVM Queen of Peace R.C. Church. Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Murphy Magee; daughter Lorraine Magee; and daughter Jennifer Whitfield; son-in law Robert Whitfield; and granddaughters Brittany and Alexis Whitfield; as well as his siblings Catherine Magee, Peter Magee, John Magee, and Teresa Ryan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Joseph Magee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley, with Rev. William Cosgrove of St. Augustine R.C. Church, officiating.
