Janis Pfuhler, a resident of Lords Valley, PA and a longtime former resident of Port Chester, NY, passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Jan was born on January 1, 1948, at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY, to Benjamin and Emma Abramson Sprague. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Thomas and sister Beverly Sprague Webster. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Edward Pfuhler; her daughters Lisa Pfuhler Wilson (Roy) of Louisville, KY, and Beth Pfuhler Bayliss (Shawn) of Harriman, NY; and three grandchildren, Julia, Benjamin and Sarah Wilson, all of Louisville, KY. Jan was a graduate of Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio and received a Masters in Education from the University of Bridgeport. Jan loved being a teacher and touched the lives of many, many children. She dedicated over thirty years of her life to teaching and was very passionate about her profession. Jan taught at various elementary schools in Port Chester until her retirement in 2007. Jan enjoyed camping, boating and spending time with her family. No one enjoyed life more than Jan Pfuhler! In the words of a dear friend, she was an example of the way to live simply, expect little and give much. She always thought of others, forgetting herself, and scattered sunshine on everyone. There will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 17th at The Church at Hemlock Farms, Lords Valley, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Pike County Humane Society, PO Box 255, Milford, PA 18337 in memory of Janis S. Pfuhler.
