Obituary of Una Ann Clawsey

Una Ann Clawsey, age 81 a long term resident of Hawley PA, died on Wednesday August 9, 2017. She is survived by her daughters Beth Bea (Charles) Morgan of Charlotte NC and Dawn Bea (John) Gerig and her beloved grand daughter Ali Gerig of Kannapolis NC.

Born December 23, 1935 in NYC was the daughter of the late William Clawsey and Margaret (Grimes) Clawsey. She attended St Tomas Aquinas high school in the Bronx.

Una was predeceased by her long term soul mate William Sandlin Sr, also of Hawley. Together they shared a peaceful co existence on the banks of their much adored river. In addition to her own children , Una was adored by her many Kapschull and Kennedy nieces and nephews and grand nephews , all of whom regarded her as their treasured matriarch.

While residing in Hawley, Una worked for Murphy's and Kincells insurance companies. After her retirement she was a much loved volunteer at Hospice of Cabarrus county and the Dorflingers glass museum, White Mills.

Una's love of music and dancing was very well known. She had a beautiful singing voice but dancing was her greatest love and each week she could be found cutting a rug at the weekly "jam" in Concord NC. Swing was her favorite and she never sat one out. She taught herself to play the piano and was an accomplished at sewing and crocheting. Her stories were legendary and her laugh was contagious. The only thing that rivaled her love of dancing was her love of Ireland and her Irish heritage.

She was preceded in death by her two beloved sisters, Kathleen Kapshull of Honesdale and Peggy Kennedy of the Bronx.

A Memorial Service for Una will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, Sept. 30, at the home of Bill Sandlin, 430 Columbus Ave., Hawley, PA.

Cremation will be through Teeters Funeral home, Hawley with internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY at a future date.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Cabarrus Co, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis NC 28081.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
