Obituary of Marjorie Propst Calkin

Marjorie Propst Calkin, 82, of Honesdale passed away on January 24th at Bethany Village a Senior Living Community. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Emery and Ione Propst of Archbald Pennsylvania. Marjorie was a graduate of Keystone Junior College and The Katherine Gibbs School In New York City.

    After graduation, she was the secretary to the Dean of Faculty at Princeton University. It was in Princeton where she met and married her late husband of 42 years CDR Theron Calkin United States Navy, Retired.

    Marjorie is survived by her loving 2 daughters and son , Betsy Davis and husband Bill; Peter Calkin and wife Carlene; Suzie Frisch and husband Tom.  Additionally, Marjorie has six adoring grandchildren Trey, Tyler, and Tara Davis, TJ Frisch, and Audrey and Mark Calkin.  Great-grandchildren include Lily and Logan Davis.  Additional surviving family includes, two sisters-in-law, two brothers in law, many nieces and nephews.  Marjorie's friend Carole, and the rest of the gang will miss her dearly.  She was preceded in death by her wonderful sister Ella P. Comba and her brother Robert Propst.

    For over 60 years, Marjorie has been a dedicated member of the Daughters of the American Revolution serving as the Wayne chapter Chaplain. For the past 37 years she has been an active volunteer of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary serving to support The Other Shop and Attic Treasures.

    Marjorie was a member of Grace Ridge Church formerly known as the First Presbyterian Church of Honesdale where a memorial service will be held on February 4th at 2:00 pm.  A burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Virginia where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband. Date yet to be determined.

    Our mother's life reflects her strong family devotion; her service to her country and community; and the ability and integrity to overcome adversity. 

We want to thank all the staff of Bethany Village for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to our mother during the last couple of years. We will be forever grateful.
