Obituary of Mary J. Daley
Mary J. Daley of Greentown, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep while at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center, Lake Ariel, on February 21, 2018 after a brief illness. Mary was born in 1939 in Woodside Queens, New York to Mary E. (Clancy) and Joseph L. Daley. She graduated from Hunter College, obtained a Master's Degree and was a NYC school teacher for 35 years. After devoting her entire career to helping special education students she retired to Lake Wallenpaupack area 25 years ago. Mary was an active member of the Sturbridge Lion Model Railroad Club in Honesdale and loved to take cruises all over the world with her cruising companion and cousin Mary Streng of South Carolina. Mary's other passion was decorating her home, inside and out, during holidays. She particularly looked forward to Christmas with her neatly decorated tree and an assortment of villages and train sets underneath. Mary had many friends and enjoyed visits from her cousin Linda Wilson who lives in New York. Both parents and her younger brother James J. Daley predeceased her. She is survived by her niece Kerry Forsdahl (Daley) of New Jersey and her great niece Reagan Forsdahl whom she adored. In lieu of flowers donations in Mary's name can be made to Saint Nicholas Church, PO Box 515, Pocono Summit, PA 18346. A viewing will be held at Teeters' Funeral Chapel at 505 Church Street in Hawley, PA on Tuesday, February 27 from 3 to 6 PM. There will be a funeral service at 6 PM conducted by her friend the Very Reverend Michael J. Salnicky. Cremation will follow and her remains will be interred at the family plot in New York.
