Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Kowalczyk, age 96, of Hawley died peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. Mrs. Kowalczyk was born March 12, 1922 in Central City, PA and was the daughter of the late Harry and the late Eva Kocur. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Zacharczuk and Helen Wallar and four brothers: George, John, Michael, and Charlie Kocur. To find a better life outside of Pennsylvania coal mines, the Kocur family moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey before she became of school age. Anne's earliest job in her teenage years was to take care of children for families that could afford such a luxury. She later followed older siblings to work on an assembly line for Procter and Gamble in Staten Island, New York. While living in New Jersey, she met Paul P. Kowalczyk and they were married on September 20. 1947. Earlier, Paul had purchased land in Bohemia, Pennsylvania and for several years while Paul was building a home there Anne commuted from New Jersey on the weekends to be with her husband. After settling full time back in Pennsylvania, Anne raised her two children: Paul N. Kowalczyk and Allan H. Kowalczyk. While her boys were very young, she was a stay at home mom, but as they grew she worked jobs outside the home at Woodloch Pines, Sherman Mills, Bohemia Deli and Forest Lake Club. Anne was very civic and community minded, being a founding member with her husband of the Lackawaxen Civic Association, a Democratic committee woman, and a member and past president of the Central Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, where she loved to cook and bake for special occasions as well as crochet afghans to benefit the fire company. Anne was a devote Catholic and attended mass at B.V.M. Queen of Peace church in Hawley. Anne's biggest devotion was to her family. She instructed them on the "Golden Rule" and how to show respect and love. She loved to provide and care for her family. She especially looked forward to special occasions of family gatherings. Her love of family really got to shine when her two grandchildren Kara and Danny arrived. Grandma's house was the place to play and be loved. Anne and Paul were married for 67 years until his death in February 2014. She is survived by sons: Paul N. and his wife, Kathy Kowalczyk of Hawley; Allan H. Kowalczyk of Hawley; granddaughter, Kara and her husband, Zachary Jennings of Honesdale; grandson: Dan Kowalczyk of Hawley; one sister, Mary Crompton of Morris Plains, NJ and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Wayne Woodlands Manor for their exceptional care and support. Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 19th from 4 PM to 7 PM at Teeters' First Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA.
