Obituary of Monica Carnival
Please share a memory of Monica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Monica B. Carnival, age 81, of St. Augustine, passed away on April 18, 2019 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring with her family by her side. For many who knew Monica, she was a very social, compassionate and giving woman. A devoted wife and mother, her family meant everything to her. Mom worked as a home maker, a part time book keeper, a Weight Watcher Leader and was a Eucharistic Minister for her church in NYC. Mom remained a resident of Manhattan, until moving to Florida in November, 2011. Mom loved the Big Apple, since she was born and raised there, met my Dad there, was married and lived there for 72 years.
The summers hold such great memories at the little house in the woods at Lake Wallenpaupack. We had been coming to our seasonal home since 1963. There were BBQs, visits to the Lake, Promised Land and White Beauty View, parties with family and friends and endless stories and laughter. Mom always enjoyed the country for the peace and quiet. My Dad is buried in the Gates of Heaven right here and she wanted to be joined with him.
Once Mom relocated to Florida in 2011, she was in a nursing home for 2 years before getting well enough to move into The Pavilion, an assisted living home right in the historic area of downtown St. Augustine. She enjoyed The Pavilion, very much, participating in the activities, meeting different people to socialize with including many people from the North East. Every Friday was Happy Hour when entertainment came in to sing songs and would encourage everyone to participate. That was one of Mom's favorite events especially singing New York, New York. In 2016, after surgery, Mom's health began to decline again and she was not able to return to the Pavilion but moved to the skilled nurse home at Bayview right next door.
Mom and my Dad, Joseph shared 49 years of marriage together until Dad passed away Jan 1, 2009. They made a great couple, complimenting one another and remained loyal and devoted to one another throughout their time together. Once Dad passed, Mom was faced with starting a new chapter in her life. She often said that she missed the love of her life and her life was never the same without Dad. Her health declined within 6 months after his death and it was a constant struggle. She would rally and then a pulmonary embolism occurred, and then another setback would occur and we were back to square 1 again. It was a long struggle for 10 years with many setbacks which she fought until she had no more fight left. She died peacefully at a wonderful hospice home next to Flagler hospital in St Augustine, surrounded by love and light.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Mule' and her husband Philip of St. Augustine. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Carnival; her parents, William and Ruth Seiger, and a sister, Marianne Heule.
