Obituary of Ira M. Travis, Jr.

Ira M. Travis, Jr., age 91, a lifelong resident of Lords Valley went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2014 at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton. Mr. Travis was born November 5, 1922, in Lords Valley, PA, and was the son of the late Mary L. (DeGroat) and Ira M. Travis, Sr. He was predeceased by a sister, Lela Laskey. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War and was a Hawley High School graduate of 1941. Ira was a sawyer for Gumble Bros. Ira was a member of Cole Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a Trustee and Deacon for over 25 years and was named Deacon Emeritus. He loved working in the garden and burying rock in the yard. He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Lois F (Klein) Travis; three daughters: Sharon Cunningham of Tyler Hill, Sandra and her husband, Alex Smith of Bethany, Linda and her husband, William Penwarden of Honesdale, PA; one son, Darrell Travis and his companion, Fay Shanahan of Kingston, PA;one sister: Mary Louise Lasky of Lords Valley, PA; and one brother: Levis F. Travis of Lords Valley, PA; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday, July 28th from 1 to 2 PM at Cole Memorial Baptist Church, Church St & Bishop Ave, Hawley, PA, followed by the funeral service 2 PM with Pastor John J. May, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Lords Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wayne Pike Child Evangelical Fellowship, PO Box 628, Honesdale, PA 18431 or Cole Memorial Baptist Church, Church St. & Bishop Ave, Hawley, PA 18428. Due to severe allergies the family has requested no flowers, perfumes or colognes at the visiting and funeral services.
