Joseph Shevlin returned home to our Lord on Friday, January 31st, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 83 years old. He used every moment of his 83 years on this Earth to the fullest possible. A military man for 28 years, he was a U.S. Marine reservist, a member of the Army National Guard in New Jersey, and continued his distinguished career as an Air Force reservist at Stewart Air National Guard Base during the Desert Storm conflict. His professional career spanned 38 years at IBM. After retirement, he worked as a concierge at the Stony Hill Inn in Bethel, CT. A lifelong volunteer, he offered his time to his parish, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys in Brookfield, CT, and later at St. Bernard's in Beach Lake, PA. He also actively volunteered at the Pike County Agency Area on Aging, and Tobyhanna Retirement Services, PA. He was a faithful Catholic and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Honesdale, PA, Assembly No. 927, and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Honesdale, PA, Council No. 363. Joseph was also a member of the Wilson-Kelch Post 311, American Legion in Hawley, PA. He is survived by his wife of 60 wonderful years, Barbara Shevlin (Schenck) of Tafton, PA, his children, Mary (Darryl) Lanzara of Wolcott, CT, Jane Walsh of New Milford, CT, Thomas (Stefanie) Shevlin of Brookfield, CT, Dennis Huntley of New Milford, CT, and Mike Walsh of New Milford, CT. He will be missed dearly by 10 grandchildren, Brianna, Alyssa, Andrew, Joseph, Jack, Merita, Luis, Payton, Madeleine, and Cameron, his great-grandson Luke, and countless nieces and nephews he loved dearly. He joined his eldest daughter, Stacey Huntley, in eternal peace in Heaven, as well as his parents Arthur and Margaret Shevlin, his sister Helen Murray, and brother Gerard Shevlin. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church Street, Hawley, PA. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 6, at 12 noon at St. Bernard's RC Church, in Beach Lake, PA. A private burial will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431 (www.dessinshelters.com) or the Pike County Area Agency on Aging, 150 Pike County Blvd, Hawley, PA, 18428 (www.pikeaaa.org).
