Back in the 80's I had gotten off a Navy ship in Long Beach, Ca. I went into town and was going to take a bus and while waiting for my bus I saw Aunt Helen "from the mountains" get off a bus. She being from Pennsylvania and me just coming in from 6 months at sea. What are the odds to be passing within minutes of each other. Nether of us had the time to talk, her connecting bus was about to leave. It was a pleasant surprise to see her, although at first she would not turn around when I called out to her, she later said she thought no one in that area would be calling her so she didn't look. But I persisted and said Aunt Helen from the mountains, she stopped, we chatted for a few minutes. Something I will always remember. And picking blueberries as a kid.

Dear Skipp
My sincere heartfelt sympathy for the passing of our beloved Aunt Helen. I can just about here her contagious laughter right now as I have left her a few messages recently. I should have known when I received a greeting from an answering machine that dear Helen had gotten her biggest wish and went to meet her maker. She’s probably calling me silly names for not knowing she would not have an answering machine. We had so many wonderful times together and a lot of laughs. I am sure there’s a lot of happiness going on in heaven with her sisters and brother.
We spoke on the phone often and I know the last couple of years she’s been really very unhappy. The last time I flew up there to see her was in 2016. It was Halloween and we had driven into Newly this Jersey for fish and chips in Kearney and then Andover for the best pizza ever. I got back to South Carolina I had my second bout with cancer so that pretty much ended my traveling days.
As you well know she’s been asking God to take her for years and years. At last she is happy.
Fond regards, Bobbi

Dear Aunt Helen from the mountains (inside joke), I bet you’re chuckling with that contagious laugh of yours and they hear that unique sound all over heaven because i’ve been leaving messages on your machine. I should have figured it out sooner. I am happy for you that you have gotten your wish and you are no longer suffering. My heart aches with the loss of you but in the end we will all be together. Meanwhile I have so many wonderful memories and you know what they are. I love you so very much. Rest in peace.
Love always,
BobbI
Dear Skipp,
My sincere heartfelt condolences on the passing of Aunt Helen. We know they’re having one big heck of a reunion up there. A lot of laughing going on.
