Obituary of Irene Mary Nalesnik

Irene Mary Nalesnik, age 91, of Bethany Village, Bethany died Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was preceded in death by Michael, her husband of 67 years, in 2018. Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James and Irene (Sofranko) Furey. Irene and Michael moved with their sons to Hawley 47 years ago. She was a member of BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. Irene had a great spirit and drive for life. She led an active lifestyle and loved music and dancing, a good game of bingo and of course a winning lottery ticket. However her greatest love was for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Michael and Cathy of Pittsburgh, Scott and Sherri of Hawley, Donald and Maralyn of Hawley, and Steve and Dr. Darlene Nalesnik; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Andrea Nalesnik; a brother, Thomas Furey; and two sisters, Ann DeAsio and Alice Morecraft. Private services will be held due to COVID restrictions.
