Millicent Fleming Hintermeister, 91, passed away peacefully in her Hercules, CA home on Monday, July 27, 2020.
Millicent, daughter of the late Bithel and Josephine Nelson Fleming, grew up in Greenville, NC. She met her late husband, Howard L. Hintermeister Sr., a Marine from Scranton, PA while working as a ticket taker at the local movie theater. The two were married in 1945. Howard's 27-year military career took the couple to Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Germany, and Washington before eventually retiring to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Millicent took pride in working. She began her career as a typist in Chicago in 1950. She worked in various positions in finance and business. One of her favorite jobs was working for the Department of Defense in Stuttgart, Germany. Millicent ended her working career in 2014 after 30+ years working as an Office Manager for a Psychiatric Medical Group in Berkeley, California.
Millicent was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sr.; her brothers, Robert Fleming and Mack E. Fleming; and sister, Virginia Dare Sklavos.
She is survived by her son, Howard L. Hintermeister Jr. of Alameda, Ca.; granddaughter, Dana Hintermeister Hedlund and husband, David; great-grandson, Nathan Howard Hedlund, all of Kirkland, WA; sister, Irma Fleming Greytak, of Greenville, NC; and niece and nephews, Yvonne Fleming Brown, Michael and James Sheerin, Frederick, Thomas, and John Hintermeister, and Sally Severy.
Millicent will be laid to rest next to her late husband at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst, PA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
