Obituary of Bruce D. Austin

Bruce D. Austin, Sr., age 79, of Hawley died Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Virginia J. (Conklin) Austin, in 2017. Born June 25, 1941, in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Martha H. (Wheeler) Austin. A lifelong resident of Hawley, Bruce was a graduate of Hawley High School, Class of 1960. He worked making furniture at S.J. Bailey And Sons in Honesdale until his retirement. Bruce was a Senior Member of the White Mills Fire Co. where he played cards every Sunday with long-time friends. He enjoyed playing horseshoes in summer and darts in winter. He is survived by two daughters: Tina Stoyer and her husband Dan of Hawley and Amy DeFazio and her husband Francis of Hawley; two sons: Bruce D. Austin Jr. and his wife Deborah of Paupack and Christopher Austin and his wife Lynette of Lakeville; eight grandchildren: David and Ryan Austin, Ashley Pierano, Jesse James, Jeremy Barrett, and Devin, Jaden and Dylan DeFazio; two sisters: Martha Frisbie of Matamoras and Paula Anderson of Arizona; one brother: John Austin of Calkins; and five great grandchildren. Private burial will be held at Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date to be determined.
