Obituary of Nancy Anne Spencer

Nancy Anne (Vogel) Spencer, of Tanglwood Lakes, Greentown, died on July 2, 2021, at Allied Services in Scranton. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William J. Spencer Jr. Born February 7, 1948, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Eleanor (Beyer) Vogel. She grew up in Springfield, PA and earned her graduate degree in nursing from Germantown Hospital. She worked for more than 40 years as an operating room nurse, working most recently at Geisinger CMC in Scranton until her retirement in 2014. She was a kind, caring person with a love for people and animals. Nancy was most at home at Lake Wallenpaupack and enjoyed boating with Bill and their friends. Gardening was another great pastime and she was a member of the Hawley Gardening Group. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and one could often find her and Bill at the Dorflinger Concert Series on Saturday evenings. She loved going into New York City and seeing Broadway shows. Nancy and her husband spent many winters in Florida. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Sherwood and husband Arthur of Tunkhannock; and her sister, Ruth Cassidy of Warminster, PA. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM, on Wednesday, July 7, at Teeters’ East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA. The funeral will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to Dorflinger Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary, PO Box 356, White Mills, PA 18473 or Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Rd, Honesdale, PA 18431.
