Lifelong friends Cathy Murphy and Kathy together at Yankee Stadium on 7 June 2015. Kathy knew what an avid fan Cathy Murphy was, so even though Kathy didn’t know as much about the game, she would meet her dear friend Cathy and go to Yankee games together. It was all about them being together.
Funny story that June 2015 day: After the game, the girlfriends went to the NY Steak House for dinner so they could eat while the Yankee crowd went home en masse. As always, they fought over the check. On this particular night, the waiter approached their table with a folder in his hand. Kathy sprang into action to snatch the check. In turn, Cathy attempted to intercept Kathy and grab the check first.
Waiter: “Ladies!! This is the dessert menu!"
The two friends and everyone around them had to laugh.
And the then wiser waiter cleverly had a busboy drop off the check as he passed.
It was a wonderful, memorable day like so many these lifelong friends together made happen.
Cathy misses her Kathy desperately and knows everyone does. "Kathy was one of the BEST!"
Prayers continue for Lou.
Best,
Cathy Murphy

My heart is broken knowing Kathy is no longer with us. She was my best friend and champion. I was so very blessed to have her in my life. I was privileged to see her through her successes in business as we worked together at Baker, Weeks and Van Bergen. She was a leader and a great supporter to all around her. I know in my heart she will continue to support us from her place above.
Love you girlfriend, Cathy Murphy

When I first moved to Pennsylvania in 2012, I decided to sing as a cantor at St. Veronica's Church. Kathy was one of the first people that I met. She was, singularly, one of the kindest and warmest people I have ever known. She helped me "navigate" the sacristy before Mass, answering many of my questions. She and I used to chat before Mass began because she was often the Eucharistic Minister when I was the cantor. Kathy also sought me out and offered comfort when it was time for me to leave St. Veronica's. Lou, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you peace in this most difficult time, Chris Koster

Kathy was such a warm and wonderful person, and she will be sorely missed. She wrote about my daughter (and her non-profit organization) for our community newspaper, as she wrote about so many residents here in TLCA. She was generous with her time and attention, and always radiated happiness and optimism. I came to know Kathy while working in the TLCA office, and looked forward to her visits and phone calls. I miss her very much; TLCA has lost one of its most beautiful members. Love and condolences to all of Kathy's family and friends, Elisabeth Muller

The most vivid memory we have of Kathy is of her beautiful smile. In all the years we have known her and seeing her at the celebrations and family get togethers, we always remember her beautiful smile and optimistic, positive and loving spirit. In June, when we were all happy to celebrate Brigid's high school graduation and send-off to college, Kathy and Lou were so wonderful to come and sit with our mom Kathleen, ask about her health and tell her how terrific she looked and how great it was to see her (after almost 2 years of no social events). She made our mom laugh sharing stories of how she and Lou spent their days in Pennsylvania and the 30 minute conversation that afternoon truly lifted my mom's spirits.
That afternoon, Kathy was just glowing with pride over Brigid's accomplishments and was delighted to see both Brigid and Colleen laughing and having so much fun with their friends and family. She was such a wonderful sister and aunt. She was so happy to be with her siblings and families. She radiated positive energy and a feeling that made you feel so special being in her company. We will miss her and know that she is eternally at rest in peace.
Kathy, thank you for the happiness you gave your family - we will treasure it.

I am so sad to hear of our loss of the light of Kathy. I met her through the Church, when she visited my dad as his Eucharistic Minister, visiting him and praying with him, and listening to his stories of days gone by. We became great friends and continued to talk on the phone regularly, laugh regularly and send each other articles in the snail mail. She was a gift to all of us, and her kindness inspires us to be better people. May God bless her, Lou, and her cherished family.

Kathy loved being a sister - whether younger sister of her BFF Susan from birth onward, or the older sister of the six siblings who came after her. She also loved being an aunt. Here at this baby shower, Kathy was positively gleeful, looking forward to becoming a great-aunt for the 9th time on the McLaughlin side alone!
Kathy perfected the art of carefully, tenderly loving babies and children from her own preteen years onward, when our mom "kept having babies!" as Kathy used to joke. Every milestone, every triumph or hardship any child she loved knew, Kathy knew, too, and prayed. Since joy shared is at least doubled, sorrows shared were always halved and helped by Kathy's love and prayers.
To be the youngest three of us eight siblings was to know Kathy as a newborn baby, child, and finally adult - and to somehow still be called Kiddo, even though she and we could laugh at how with children of our own now, we three weren't "kids" except in our hearts.
And Kathy was forever a child at heart. A child of the Sacred Heart, and a child at heart. Missed and loved forever.
