Obituary of Joan E. Hughes

Joan E. Hughes, age 88, a 25-year resident of Tafton died Friday, December 10, 2021, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years and the center of her world, Harold V. Hughes,Jr. in 2006. Born October 26, 1933, in the Bronx, NY, Joan was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Catherine (O'Brien) Diehl. Formerly of Deer Park, NY, she had worked at CVS in Hawley and was a member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church in Hawley. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Pike County Senior Center in Dingmans Ferry. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Hara and Rainey Hughes of Allentown; two daughters: Margie Hughes of Knoxville, TN and Elizabeth Hughes of Tafton; and her grandson: Billy Hughes of Knoxville, TN. Joan was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Diehl, and a sister, Eileen Mittwoch. There will be a Funeral Mass Friday, December 17, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor officiating.
