Obituary of Helen Jane Raihl

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Jane Raihl, affectionately know as “Grams” to her friends and family, passed away at home on January 20, 2022, at the age of 97. She was one of seven children to Andrew and Bertha (Schlach) Winters. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings: Andrew Winters, John Winters, Kenneth “Dick” Winters, Dorothy Hafer, Elizabeth Gregro and Mae Miller. She had fond memories of being raised on the dairy farm where she pitched in and did the chores and milking. She graduated from Mount Penn High School. Always a hard worker, she had been employed at Luden’s Candy Factory, worked in a military factory in Pottstown during World War II and retired from American Bank & Trust Co. after 35 years. She loved animals, especially Dusty, Rusty, Kaya, Missy, Ginger, Holly and Sandy. She loved to walk her dogs, especially on the dike in Hawley. She is survived by her daughter: Patricia Broughton and son-in-law Dr. Donald Broughton (with whom she resided); her grandson: Mark Broughton and his family, Joanna, Zoey and Joseph; and by several nieces and nephews: John Hafer, James Hafer, Susan Sweigert, Steven Miller, Kevin Winters, Robert Gregro and Gary Gregro. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel. She will always be remembered for “tell it like it is, don’t sugarcoat anything.” If you wish to remember Grams, please donate to the animal shelter of your choice.
