Kathryn Elizabeth Kmetz, age 69, of Hawley died Sunday, February 13, 2022, at home. Born August 8, 1952, in Honesdale, Kathy was the daughter of the late Michael Joseph Kmetz Jr. and Dorothy R. (Miszler) Kmetz. A 1970 graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and furthered it at Temple University. Formerly of Allentown, she worked as a recreational therapist and supervisor at Allentown State Hospital until her retirement. Miss Kmetz was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley and enjoyed meeting with her prayer group in Carbondale. Kathy loved her family and was there for them, along with friends and neighbors as she willingly helped others. She was passionate and devoted to rescuing and caring for animals. She is survived by her siblings: Rita A. Scott and James T. Kmetz both of Newport News, VA, Joseph M. Kmetz and his wife Joanne of Hawley, and Mary Hope Casseri and her husband Mark Q. of Kasilof, AK; six nieces and three nephews of whom she was godparent to several; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Susan M. McAndrew, and a nephew, Michael A. Casseri. Calling hours will be Sunday, February 20, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Teeters' Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Mass will be Monday, February 21, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Private cremation will be held at Lake Region Crematory followed by inurnment in B.V.M. Queen of Peace Cemetery, Hawley, in Spring 2022. Memorials may be made to BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, Pennsylvania.
