Frank Jacob Makar, age 89, of Briarwood Manor, Newfoundland, PA, died Saturday, February 26, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nina Claire (DeStrange) Makar, in 2017. Born December 13, 1932, in Yonkers, NY, Frank was the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Marcio) Makar and was one of ten brothers and sisters. Frank and Nina were high school sweethearts and met at Gorton High School in Yonkers during band class, where they both enjoyed playing the trumpet. He served in the US Marine Corps from Feb 22,1950 to Feb 1, 1952 (active duty) and received an honorable discharge. An Elmsford, NY resident for most of his life, he was an electrical inspector for Ward Leonard in Mt Vernon, NY, for over 40 years and also worked on weekends for the St. Andrews Golf Course in Hastings on Hudson, NY. Frank was a devoted husband and father to wife, Nina and daughters, Maryanne and Martina. Frank enjoyed watching golf on TV and following the NY Yankees. He also enjoyed watching old time westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. In the later three years of his life, he was lovingly cared for at The Briarwood Personal Care Home for Seniors and enjoyed visits from his family and friends. He is survived by his oldest daughter, Maryanne Kochan of Paupack, PA; his older brother, Edward of Arizona; and his devoted younger brother, John of Yonkers, NY. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martina. There will be a Memorial Mass held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 59 East Main St., Elmsford, NY at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Inurnment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY.
