I knew her from birth until I was about 12. But spent a lifetime looking for her and found her before she passed away. I loved her because she saved me from a miserable childhood.

I knew Gerda Roseland Chan since I was a toddler. She was the most influential person in my life. She was warm, affectionate, sweet, generous and caring. When I was being abused as a child, Gerda stood up for me and would not tolerate the situation I was in and fought for my survival. I will love her until the day I die. Julia and Stephanie were my playmates. My brothers are Stewart [my twin] and older brother Johnny. I was known as Sandra back then. Stephanie and Julia were beautiful little girls. We all ate with chopsticks. Gerda kept dishes of candy on the cocktail table. When they moved to their own mid-century modern home in Levittown, we went there to see their house and car. They had reached the American dream and we admired them so much.
