Obituary of Edward J. Kelly

Edward J. Kelly, age 67, of Hawley, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born February 13, 1956, in Jersey City, NJ, Ed was the son of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Walsh) Kelly, Sr. While serving in the Navy he earned the Navy Expedition Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Letters of Appreciation for engineering Officer of USS Coral Sea. After serving in the US Navy, Ed worked for Shell Oil in Sewaren, NJ. In 1995 he started working as a start-up engineer in combined cycle and simple cycle power plants, a career that took him throughout the US and internationally. In his free time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and doing carpentry. Edward enjoyed going to concerts and music festivals. He received the Life Saving Award from the Iselin, NJ, Chapter of the VFW and Citizens Award from the Township of Woodbridge, NJ, for saving a two year old from his burning home. He is survived by two sisters: Norene Heffner of Jackson, NJ, and Karen Boyce and her husband Michael of Stewartville, NJ; a niece: Amanda Ditchik; two nephews: Michael Boyce and Rory Hanrahan and his wife Lisa; two great nieces: Kaitlyn Ditchik and Madeline Hanrahan; and a great nephew: Conner Ditchik. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Thomas More RC Church, 105 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436.
