Dorothy Ellen McCarthy, 72, passed away October 11, 2023, at Glenmaura Senior Living in Pennsylvania, with family by her side. Dorothy was born October 13, 1950, in Queens NY, to Alfred and Jean Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband, Brian, in 2015. Dorothy graduated from Newfield High School of Selden, NY in 1968 and attended Kings Park Nursing School shortly after graduation. She became a registered nurse and practiced in several community hospitals before retiring early to raise her family. She spent most of her career caring for children, in both pediatric and neonatal care units. She was known for her loving attitude, gracious hospitality, and never-ending attention for others. Dorothy was a devoted wife to her husband, Brian, for 42 years and carried his legacy on to the next generation. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and an active parishioner in every community she spent her life. She lived for her family, friends, cooking, and quilting. She is survived by her two sons, Matthew and his wife Megan and Peter; grandchildren, Brian and Landon; sister Mary; brothers Tom and Daniel; and many friends. She laid her father Alfred, mother Jean, and brothers Jim and Mickey to rest in years prior. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held at St. Paul's R.C. Church, 2800 Route 17K, Bullville, NY, at 12 noon on Friday, October 27, 2023. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Coram, NY. Flowers are respectfully declined in lieu of donations to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William Street, Dunmore, PA, 18510, and the Pine Bush Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 1, Pine Bush, NY 12566.
