Obituary of James W. Simmons

On October 11, 2023, James "Jim" William Simmons passed away peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Dawn Simmons, where he currently resided.
Born October 30, 1928, "Jim" was the son of the late Edward and Anna Ruth Simmons. He was the youngest of six siblings and the last of his generation. He is pre-deceased by his brother Franklin Simmons, and sisters: June (Frank) Bebensee, Virginia (Robert) Swezy, Elaine (Ralph) Box, and Doris Gilbert (Roland) Seeley. He is also predeceased by his former wife, MaryAnn, his second wife, Florence, and his granddaughter, Nina.
He is survived by his three children: Jeanne (Joseph) Kleca, of Bethlehem, PA; Jimmy (Dawn) Simmons, of Mooresville, NC; and Amy (Gene) Ciccone of Honesdale, PA; 8 grandchildren: Tricia (Tim) Driscoll (NC), Audra (Jarrod) Schwartz (AZ), Melissa Masters Sprinkle (VA), Jamie Simmons and companion, Trey Bennett (FL), Mindy (Phil) Skelton (PA), Kyle Simmons (NC), Amanda (Eric) Quinn (NJ), RJ Ciccone (PA); eleven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Jim worked his younger years in local millwork, and later as a corrections officer at Farview State Hospital, Waymart. He served three years in the National Guard.
He will be remembered for his love of family and love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and having a huge garden. Dad had a sweet tooth for desserts, a slice of pie or piece of applesauce cake. After dinner, you could find Jim by the TV watching old westerns or John Wayne movies.
Interment will be at the Green Gate Cemetery, Hawley, PA, at the family's convenience.
